HOME portraits.

A custom commissioned, hand-made, watercolor painting of your home or special place is the perfect one-of-a-kind gift that will be cherished for years to come. A thoughtful gift idea for a friend or family member, a real estate closing, newly married couple, fundraisers, or any ideas you might have to preserve a wonderful memory.

You provide me your favorite image, and I paint an original piece of art based on the photograph you send. Tell me the story of your home and any details that will make your painting more personalized and perfect for you. What would you like to add or remove in your painting? What season would you like painted, and what size? I’ll create a pencil sketch for your approval, and the next step is for me to paint your finished watercolor painting!

All my portraits are painted on acid free, heavyweight, 140 lb. watercolor paper using high quality Sennelier watercolor paints. Their honey-based formula not only acts as a preservative, but allow me the ability to create bold and radiant colors in my paintings.

The photo vs. the creative freedom of a painting. Make it yours!

It all begins with your vision for the look of your painting! I can add your favorite flowers or chair by your doorstep, remove the neighbors houses in the background; and even change the scroll detail to a script letter O! I love the challenge of fitting all your unique details into your painting.

Surround your house with new landscaping! Add a blue sky. I can remove the vehicle in the driveway, add house numbers, take out a chair and add flowers by the door. Add an American Flag. Paint the stairs white, and remove any wires or poles shown. Not a fan of winter… have your painting created to display the beauty of summer!

Tips for Photographing your Home

Do. Photograph with sunshine.

Choose your favorite view of your home. Remember, I’ve never seen this place, so you need to decide which angle is your favorite and photograph it accordingly. I rely solely on the images you provide to create your painting. Try to take the photo when sunlight is shining on the side you’d like painted. This allows me to see more accurate colors and detail.

Don’t

No sunlight on house.

Do. Photograph entire front door. Avoid obstructed views.

Usually the front of your home is the most appealing view. It’s best to photograph the entire front door as much as possible. You may need to step in either direction so the door isn’t obstructed by a column, tree, wall, porch banister, light pole, etc.

Don’t

Light pole obstructing front door view.

Do. Photograph house from distance and closeup.

If possible, try to take at least one photo across the street from your house. Allowing me to see entire house and the surrounding landscaping and trees. Also, take a few shots closer in so I can see details; doors, shutters, lights, etc.
